Memorial Weekend Remembrance Opportunities

Attention Scouts,

Please read this email in its entirety since there are there separate activities mentioned.

We have some important service events coming up this Memorial Day weekend that you can put on your holiday weekend calendar if you can spare some time to assist with preparations for the Memorial Day weekend activities. This is a great way to honor our soldiers that are no longer with us.  I hope you can attend either all or some of these service opportunities.

We are looking for scouts to come out and help place flags on the graves at the Raleigh National Cemetery located at 501 Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh this Friday May 22nd starting at 2:00pm. Even if you can’t get there till a later time please still come out to help when you can. With a good amount of people, we can usually get it done in a little less than 2 hours, so there will still be plenty of help required by 3pm. I know it is early but, you should be able to be excused from school a little early to assist with this service.

Please wear your Class A uniform and bring a pair of light work gloves.

I have attached some detailed directions to the Raleigh National Cemetery

Also remember that you can assist the local Wendell American Legion members at the Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell on Saturday May 23rd at 5pm for additional placement of flags on graves of soldiers. The cemetery is located on Industrial Dr. which is right off of Wendell Blvd. near the Napa Auto Parts Walker Auto Supply store. You should see a sign for it on Wendell Blvd. Please wear your Class A uniform

There is also an opportunity to participate in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Wendell Post 148 American Legion located at 5100 Wendell Blvd on Sunday May 24th at 4:45pm. It is easy to find, just look for the log cabin on the right as you are traveling on Wendell Blvd heading towards Zebulon. The veterans there really appreciate seeing the scouts there for the ceremony and assisting afterwards for the cleanup of tables and chairs as well as helping legion members with transporting the food and drink out of and back into the kitchen. There will be food served for those in attendance. Please wear your Class A uniform

It would be great to see you there as well some of you who have never participated before to come out there to one or all of these events if you can give up a little bit of your holiday weekend to honor our soldiers.

Regards,

Gene Zack

Webelos 2 / Arrow of Light Bridging Ceremony 5/9/15 from 6pm until 8pm

Hello, Everyone!
This Saturday, from 6pm until 8pm, we are having our Bridging Ceremony for our Arrow of Light Den at Wendell Park (info:http://www.townofwendell.com/rentals/wendell-park ). We encourage all scouts to attend, as this is a special ceremony where our Cubscouts who are moving to the Troop are recognized for their work and are accepted by the Troop.  These boys have achieved what all our kids have the potential to earn!
If you have questions, please email me, Chris Allardice or the leaders for the AOL den, Mike and Tony.
Thank you and I am looking forward to seeing you there!
